AVPreserve President Chris Lacinak will be speaking at PBS TechCon 2014 taking place April 2nd-4th in Las Vegas, Nevada. The premiere annual gathering on topics related to broadcast technology within in public television, PBS TechCon draws broadcast engineers, information technology and traffic professionals, General Managers, and senior executives representing public media stations from across the globe in order to learn about and discuss new technologies and novel solutions to managing broadcast collections.

On Thursday Chris will be speaking on a panel giving an update on the American Archive Public Broadcasting project, along with James Snyder (Senior Systems Administrator, Library of Congress), Casey Davis (Project Manager for the American Archive of Public Broadcasting, WGBH), Steve Davis (Executive VP and CTO, Crawford Media Services). AVPreserve has worked on many aspects of the project, including development of PBCore 2.0, station inventories, and development of the AMS Archival Management System, which has been used to manage all of the inventory data collected as well as manage the workflows and item-tracking for each station as they go through the digitization process.

The American Archive is currently transitioning from its home in the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to management under a partnership between the Library of Congress and WGBH in Boston. Once the transition is complete there will be 40,000 hours of public television and radio content made re-available to the public, with hopes that that number will grow as the Archive becomes established. It’s an exciting point in the life of the project, and exciting for us to have contributed and see everyone’s work coming to fruition.
