Títle: The OAIS model (Open Archival Information System) in the design of digital sound archives

Date: May 22nd, 2018

Time: 1:00-1:45PM EST

About the Instructor

Perla Olivia Rodríguez Reséndiz (PhD) is a researcher of the Institute for Library and Information Sciences Research (IIBI) from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). She is a member of the National Registry of Researchers of Mexico and is a Latin American Ambassador for the International Association of Audiovisual and Sound Archives (IASA). She coordinated the team who founded the National Sound Archive of Mexico.

Topic: The documenting processes used in analog archives have fallen in disuse. For this reason, management, conservation and access to digital assets obtained as a result of digitization or born-digital, represent areas of interest for sound archives managers, information science professionals, documentalists, professors and researchers who are looking for alternatives to guarantee a sustainable digital preservation for their collections. Given that a model of a digital archive for sustainable digital preservation of assets does not yet exist, it is important to know the OAIS model (Open Archival Information System) as a reference framework to conceive, develop and manage a trusted and sustainable digital sound archive in the long term. Goals: Present and analyze the components and features of OAIS as a reference framework for the design of digital sound archives.
