Little known fact about me: I have visited Ghana 9 times in the past 11 years. It has actually been one of the greatest privileges of my career thus far to work with NYU professor Mona Jimenez and several other collaborators helping build capacity for audiovisual archiving with the archives, broadcasters, libraries, and museums in Ghana. So I was excited and honored when the board of the International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives (IASA) invited me to present the closing keynote at their 49th annual conference, which was held in Accra, Ghana, October 1-4, 2018. It was an incredible event, and I am eternally grateful to the IASA board for letting me share this story.

The Human Side of Technology (Revisited)

A few years ago, we were working with a non-profit to help them select and implement a new enterprise digital asset management system (DAMS). This was a first for the small organization of about 200 staff across the US, and a few in the UK. And so, very early on, we sat down with them to have a frank conversation about the resources that it would take to not only implement the DAMS, but also for it to be successful over time. They asked, “Can we manage this with the current staff we have today?”

Additionally, we will invite experts in the region to talk about topics related to digital preservation, such as digitization, digital preservation systems and tools, digital preservation fundamentals, case studies, and more! Each 45-minute webinar will consist of a presentation followed by questions and answers.
